Current Exhibition at Glynn Vivian Gallery, Swansea.
A few photos from my visit after the UCU Strike Demo in Swansea city centre. Well worth a visit before the exhibition closes in January.
And hiding in the far corner of the exhibition is a painting from a young John Berger:
There is a lot of great stuff already happening in Swansea. We are a City of Sanctuary, proud to be a Home Office dispersal city for refugees and asylum seekers. We are a Dementia Friendly city. We are a World Health Organisation Healthy City. We are a UNESCO City of Learning. Swansea Council has also embedded the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC) into the way we set our policies.
On 10 December, Human Rights Day, Swansea’s Public Service Board along with other key stakeholders of the region will be launching our intention to become a Human Rights City along with a 12 month action plan on how we will get there.
We were concerned today with 3 intersecting issues. Owen Griffiths from WAYS OF WORKING did a fantastic job in explaining some of the many small projects he has initiated and been involved with across the city; more than 10 years of making Swansea a kinder, safer, greener and healthier place seemed like time very well spent.

“The City has changed and evolved significantly over the past 25 years. The 2008 financial crisis, the UK’s decision to leave the EU and the Covid-19 pandemic have all had — and continue to have — major impacts on the City.”

Canary Wharf launches flexible office service as work patterns shift | Financial Times
“Citi is moving thousands of staff into 40 Bank Street while it undertakes a £100mn refurbishment of its neighbouring skyscraper, a project partly aimed at improving the building’s green credentials. Moving to a flexible office gives the bank a chance to try out technology and ways of working that it might use in the refurbished offices, and provides opportunities to experiment while the future of work remains so uncertain, said Kathryn Harrison-Thomas, head of Citi’s property services in Europe, the Middle East and Asia. “We’re seeing how people work prior to making some very significant commitments in the main building. If people want to work a couple of days at home and three in the office, that means we don’t need 9,000 desks any more,” she said.”
